Sparrows Childcare

All children learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside. We will provide opportunities for children to develop their imagination and skills through a variety of play and activities, including messy play.

All of our nurseries deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, which consists of 7 areas.
The 3 core areas are:

  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

These are considered to be particularly crucial for igniting children's curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.

These 3 prime areas are then strengthened through the four specific areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Expressive Arts and Design
  • Understanding the World

Continuous Provision and Free-Flow Play

Whether child led, adult led or supported – all play is strongly encouraged and the aim is for it to be a fun, stimulating, enjoyable, and valuable learning experience.
Play integrates everything a child has learnt, knows, feels, relates to and understands.
Indoor and outdoor experiences complement each other, and children are encouraged when possible to choose whether they would prefer to be inside or outside.

Our Staff

Each Sparrows Nursery has their own dedicated on-site Manager who is responsible for the day to day running and operation of their Nursery. Our Managers are responsible for the delivery of high quality childcare.

Buildings

  • Sparrows will enter into an agreement on terms of occupancy with each church
  • Childcare staff will need full, exclusive and dedicated use of buildings, or appropriate areas of buildings, whilst services are in operation
  • Children need easily accessible, safe and dedicated outside space with appropriate equipment and facilities.
  • There is a legal requirement for childcare settings to have sufficient toilets and nappy changing facilities. Staff and children’s toilets must be separate
  • Each setting will need a dedicated food preparation area and fridge. These may be located separately from the childcare provision
  • Childcare staff need their own keys for opening and securing buildings
  • Sparrows will employ cleaning staff for each setting (these may be shared with the church) who will take on their duties outside setting opening times
  • The setting and all associated activities will be insured by Sparrows. The buildings in which the setting operates will be insured by the church

Childcare Operations

Childcare

Our priority is to provide the highest possible standards of care through Sparrows settings. Therefore, Sparrows will provide all necessary paperwork, policy and guidance documents which each setting will adopt to enable them to work to realise the standards children deserve.

Sparrows will be responsible for compliance with government regulations and for reaching OFSTED standards. We will strive to achieve OFSTED outstanding in each setting.

Services on offer

In any typical setting we offer either sessional pre-school or full daycare nursery services, or a flexible mixture of both.

The type of care on offer, and opening hours, will be decided through consultation with parents, staff, parish representatives and discussions with Early Years Advisers for the local authority.

Meals will be provided by nursery staff or parents/carers (eg packed lunch) depending on the setting and hours of care offered.

Equipment

Sparrows will provide any necessary toys, furniture and equipment. These may, upon agreement, be available for other groups (eg Sunday groups).

Fees

Principles guiding our views on fees are inclusivity and appropriateness. Fee levels will be agreed by Sparrows management and each setting after consultation with the staff in each setting and according to each local context.

All fees, grants and any other income will be paid directly to Sparrows, who are responsible for payment of all salaries and running costs in each setting. Financial records of each setting will be accessible by appropriate childcare staff and church representatives

Sparrows Partners

Some settings may feel they need more specialised support and may affiliate with Sparrows. Settings that affiliate continue to operate independently and sign up to be a Sparrows partner.

They are able to draw on Sparrows support and advocacy through purchasing services that are of specific use to them. We offer visits to provide expertise and guidance on any issues relevant to the setting.

Partner settings may enter into a service level agreement which outlines the services provided.  Such services include visits, supply of policies and procedures, guidance on OFSTED requirements, staffing, recruitment, outdoor areas and the latest statutory requirements.

We can provide more details on our service level agreements on request.

If you would like more details on becoming a Sparrows Partner please contact us at info@sparrowschildcare.co.uk

Sparrows Network

Each church in the Diocese which has a childcare provision in the parish will be included in our Sparrows Network.

We will contact each setting and see if there are any ways in which we might support their existing work. Networking is important and we have a network of settings that can offer mutual support.

We provide regular e-news and print newsletters highlighting under 5s news, courses and resources. There is no cost to a setting for being part of the Sparrows Network, it is entirely free and our aim is to support, provide resources, encourage high-quality childcare and forge links between settings.

To receive regular information on all issues regarding childcare and to be linked to the growing number of childcare settings around the Diocese, please contact Jo Gilks with the following information;

  • Childcare Manager’s name and contact details
  • Number of children in your childcare setting
  • Number of children for whom you are OFSTED registered
